According to Ready.Gov the official website for Department of Homeland Security (n.d.) "Following a disaster, there may be power outages that could last for several days. Stock canned foods, dry mixes and other staples that do not require refrigeration, cooking, water or special preparation. Be sure to include a manual can opener and eating utensils" (P. 1). Something better would be shelf stable food that is in pouches that don't require can openers.
Additionally a surprising interview with former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency James Woolsey. According to Forbes (2014) "America's power grid may be the nation's proverbial Achilles heel. For over a decade, scientists and intelligence professionals have been shouting at the federal government to do something - anything - to protect and strengthen the grid from cataclysmic collapse, which could leave much of the nation in the dark for months, possibly even years" (P. 1).
In conclusion we believe it's absolutely essential that you take some preparatory measures for the safety and continuity of your family.
